JR Coding Workshop – Scratch (Ages 9-13)

Workshop Description

CodeExplorers introduces youth to the fundamentals of computer science through fun, hands-on projects using Scratch. Students create animations, interactive stories, and simple games while strengthening creativity, logic, and confidence as young coders.

Objectives

  • Build foundational knowledge of coding and computational thinking

  • Encourage creativity and problem-solving through digital storytelling

  • Make early coding concepts approachable and engaging for beginners

Topics Covered

  • Sequences, loops, events, conditionals

  • Sprite design, animation, sound, and interactivity

  • Game mechanics: jumping, movement, collisions, scoring

  • Debugging, iteration, and peer feedback

Course Objectives

By the end of the workshop, students will be able to:

  • Explain key coding concepts in their own words

  • Navigate Scratch and build multi-step programs

  • Convert storyboards into functional animations and games
