BOTEXPLORERS

Junior Robotics – Elegoo Smart Car (Ages 9-13)

Workshop Description

BotExplorers introduces youth to robotics through building, customizing, and coding their own robot car. Using sensors, motors, and block-based programming, students bring their robots to life and complete fun, challenge-based missions.

Objectives

  • Make robotics approachable through hands-on building

  • Strengthen understanding of sensors, movement, and logic

  • Encourage teamwork and creative problem-solving

Topics Covered

  • Robot assembly: chassis, motors, sensors, camera

  • Block-based coding for motion, detection, and reactions

  • Obstacle avoidance, line-following, and expressive behaviors

  • Vision-based tasks: color or face detection

Course Objectives

Participants will learn to:

  • Assemble a functioning robot car from parts

  • Code behaviors using conditionals, loops, and sensor inputs

  • Integrate camera-based vision features

  • Test, debug, and refine robot performance

  • Complete mission-style challenges

Course Outcomes

Students finish with:

  • A working programmable robot

  • Experience with real-world robotics applications

  • Increased confidence in engineering and STEM concepts

  • A certificate, digital resources, and a keepsake photo
